Take a Hike is a locally owned hiking tour company based in Ketchikan, Alaska, offering small-group, guided adventures through Southeast Alaska’s temperate rainforest. Founded and led by lifelong adventurer and local guide Zachary Stern, Take a Hike was created to give visitors a deeper, more personal connection to the land beyond the cruise ship docks.

Each tour is designed to be unhurried, immersive, and flexible. After a short 15-minute drive from town, we step onto quiet trails that wind through old-growth forest, along beaches, past waterfalls, and into the heart of the ecosystem that defines this place. Along the way, guests may encounter salmon streams, bald eagles, bears, and the rich plant life that thrives in the rainforest.

With small groups, a single guide, and a focus on genuine experience over volume, Take a Hike is about slowing down and truly seeing Ketchikan. Whether it’s your first time in Alaska or a return visit, these hikes are meant to feel less like a tour—and more like exploring with a knowledgeable local friend.
